The best way to further your knowledge of aromatherapy is to READ!! We cannot stress this enough.
There are, of course any number of aromatherapy courses available too, but for the beginner you do not need to take a course until you get to a point where you feel you need more structured information.
If you are a professional such as a medical doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist, occupational therapist you might want to take a course that would give you CEU. Check with your local associations to see if they do.
Otherwise there are two organizations that do have great suggestions and have approved several aromatherapy schools that meet the requirements for getting basic to advanced aromatherapy education.
See NAHA (National Association of Holistic Aromatherapists) and AIA (Alliance of International aromatherapists) for their approved school listings.
We are members of both organizations and encourage you to become a member of one or both if you are serious about aromatherapy and the safe applications of essential oils.
One note of caution about taking courses at your local community school or college. Make sure to check that the instructor has taken a certified course in Aromatherapy. And that they are not just a member or distributor of an MLM (multilevel marketing organization) that has not taken a certified course.
You want the course you take to be from someone that has had indepth course study, perferably by one of the approved schools by the above Aromatherapy professional organizations.
But what if you can’t afford to take a course? Well, start by reading through our website. There are three main categories or areas that will provide you with hours of reading, learning. They also include recipes to use that are simple and inexpensive to make.
Start by reading our past Newsletters – We have been writing them since 1999 and have well over 150 ‘past’ newsletters with valuable information for anyone.
Next read the Aromatherapy Tips Index – again there are over 145 issues of One page tips and helpful information. And as usually, I’m always writing more.
The last section to help you learn is the Health and Beauty Index. Here we have topics listed for some of the common ailments and health concerns. There are sections for beauty and skin care and one for using essential oils around the house and garden.
We have also tried to provide a ‘printable version’ for each article to help you conserve paper should you decide you wish to keep ‘paper’ copies.
If you are looking for Recipes you will find many available throughout the newsletters, tips and health index articles. Or you can see our Recipes Index or purchase the Aromatherapy Recipes Using Pure Essential oils Vol 1 book written by me that includes recipes from the articles written. The spiral bound version available exclusively through our sites shopping section.
You can always purchase a few books too. There are many good books available for use by beginners to those that are advanced.
One of our favorite books for those just starting out is Aromatherapy for Dummies by Kathi Keville.
She writes very simple to understand safe uses of essential oils. And has quick reference guides for a variety of ailments.
Once you start exploring the world of aromatherapy you will soon discover which type you wish to pursue.
Yes there are many different types of aromatherapy and uses for essential oils. And you may be interested in one or many areas. There is the emotional aspect, the health or medical conditions, spiritual, and of course the beauty and skin care area or environmental (just enjoy using natural scents for air or use in cleaning products.)
There are lots of things to learn about in aromatherapy. You are on your way. It’s easy to begin, just starting by reading! Enjoy!!
Oh, don’t forget to get a our Basic Sampler kit so as you learn while reading, you can associate the scent of each essential oil your reading about!
