    <<<<<<<<AROMATHERAPY  DEFINITIONS>>>>>>>>

What does Antiseptic mean? It is an agent that destroys and / or prevents the development of microbes.
What are microbes? They are the minute living organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungus and more.
What is Antimicrobial? An agent which resists or destroys pathogenic micro-organisms (microbes). This term is often used the same as antiseptic.
Anti bacterial (antibiotic) , antiviral, antifungal are agents that destroy each of the respective microorganisms.
Another similar term is germicidal - destroys germs. Germs are of course microbes!
In any case, essential oils are antiseptic in varying degrees. Some are better for bacterial infections, others for fungal and others yet for viral infections.  As you study aromatherapy you will find essential oils that work best for each type of infection. Several oils can work on many types infections.
Hope this helps a little in understanding some of the terms you may come upon while reading about aromatherapy.
Next month we'll find a few more terms and how they relate to aromatherapy!

    <<<<<<<<<<HELPFUL INFO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Very soon every one will be doing their spring cleaning! Essential oils can be added to your cleaning water. Lemon and Orange oil are very popular to use. But there are many others you might want to use. Just add to your cleaning bucket!  Add a drop or two of eucalyptus to give a refreshing feel of cleanliness.  Other common oils are Pine or Peppermint.  Experiment and soon you'll have your own favorites!

Got pests in your house - such as ants, flies, cockroaches, or mice?  Try cutting a sponge in small pieces and place in areas where these pests enter the home or (unfortunately may have invaded you already).   Ants don't like orange, pine, peppermint or spruce oils. Flies - anise, bay laurel, cedarwood, cloves, eucalyptus, orange.
Cockroaches - eucalyptus, peppermint, and sage.
    Mice - peppermint and spearmint.
(Remember to place the sponges out of the reach of children and pets!)

    <<<<<<<<<< BIRCH HILL HAPPENINGS NEWS>>>>>>>

    Hello Everyone,
Time sure is flying!  Can't believe it's already been a month since we last wrote.  Everyone is doing fine here.  Hope all is fine with all our aromatherapy friends too!
We have a couple new items this month. We now have Rosehip Seed Oil in stock. This oil is a carrier oil used to mix in massage oils or lotions. It is very nourishing to your skin and helps with scars.  You only need a little in each blend (1 or 2 ml per ounce) to give the blend extra healing properties.
We have a new essential oil blend too. Thieves blend is a blend of great essential oils that fight all those microbes.  Legend has it,  this was a mixture of oils used to help robbers stay healthy as they robbed plague victims.  It is a wonderful smelling blend.
We have a few atomizing /nebulizing diffusers left.  Although we do not have them on our website (on-line catalog) any longer we have a few available. If interested in purchasing an atomizing type diffuser please  email or call us for pricing and availability.
We are currently looking for bar type soaps to have available to our customers. We have been trying some  All Natural soaps, some unscented soaps made with Jojoba Oil and Evening Primrose Oil.  We have also been trying some that are lightly scented with therapeutic essential oils such as Lavender, Rose and Tea tree. We will keep you posted as to when they will be available.
In the mean time, continue to have fun with aromatherapy!

    ‘til next month,

    Yours in Aromatherapy,
    Alan and Penny
