    <<<<<<<<AROMATHERAPY  DEFINITIONS>>>>>>>>
What are Hydrosols? What are Aromatic Waters or Floral Waters?
True Hydrosols are the waters left over after the essential oils have been distilled from the plantThese are the by-products of the distillation process.  Hydrosols can be expensive and often times are hard to come by.  They contain many of the same properties that the essential oils do.
Floral Waters and/ or aromatic waters usually come from either the concentrated distilled waters that are then reconstituted and diluted to be used as spritzs and sprays.  Or they can be made using essential oils and an emulsifier to keep the essential oils in suspension in the water.  Both Hydrosols and Floral waters are safer to use around children, the elderly and pets than are the stronger pure essential oils.
Floral waters are less expensive to produce.  Floral waters should not be ingested.  Hydrosols on the other hand are often used to flavor different products from alcohol to other types of beverages.
Both products are used in the cosmetic industry.

    <<<<<<<<<< BIRCH HILL HAPPENINGS NEWS>>>>>>>

    Hello Everyone,
Can you believe it - September is here! Where did the summer go? Al and I have been busy working not only on the Aromatherapy Business, our other jobs but on projects around the house!
Al finished our 3 season room just a few days ago. It will be fun to sit in there and  watch the leaves change.  With the days being cooler, a comfortable sanctuary from the chilly winds during the shorter but sunny fall days.
We hope this time of year finds you a bit of time to sit down and take a few moments to reflect on all the activity you enjoyed during the past few summer months.   Aromatherapy will help bring back these memories as you think about the smells you enjoyed whether you were alone or with family and friends.
Soon the air will turn crisp and cool.  People will begin to spend more time indoors and before you know it - colds and flus will be upon us once again.
Many essential oils have great disinfecting properties and should be used to clean areas touched by those around us.
Diffusing essential oils can help keep the air disinfected and kill many viruses and bacteria that float around the room.
Once ill,  many oils can help you feel more comfortable by helping to relieve symptoms of your ailments.  Now is a good time to find a book or two on Therapeutic Aromatherapy.  Once you find a few oils you'll want to have them on hand.
This month we featured Oregano. It is a very good disinfecting essential oil. It is very strong and should be used cautiously.  A drop or two is all that is necessary.  I personally have used it when I've had sore throats. It works great!  Within a few hours the irritation is gone and I'm back to my old self again.  (One drop in 4 ounces of water and used as a gargle about once an hour - usually stops a sore throat in its tracks.  Do not use this with children unless you know they understand how to gargle. This gargle is very warm in the mouth as oregano is a very spicy hot essential oil. Make sure whom ever is gargling knows this before hand.)
Onto What's NEW!!  We now have Four new Floral Waters!!  These are very versatile and can be used to spray in the air, on linens, especially bed linens, on your face, skin and clothing.   Please check them out by clicking on the hyper linked text.
We also have a few new scented products as we begin to carry a  scented shampoos,  and creams.  We hope to have some Gel-type air fresheners available very soon. We are working on these now.
Watch our  Scented Products Page as we create more products.
We have a New Massage Oil Blend that is totally unscented.  A few massage therapists love how you only need a little to get good 'glide' but yet have control of your techniques.  Massage therapists will often blend their own essential oils in a tablespoon or two made specifically for that particular customer.  This blend works well for this too.  Just add your essential oils and your ready for the next massage!

    ‘til next month,

    Yours in Aromatherapy,
    Alan and Penny
