Okay, by now most of us should be putting our seasonal clothing in storage. If you don’t actually move them to storage you might just move them to dresser drawers you use to ‘switch’ your seasonal clothing. That is what I do for my every daywear.
Do you hate opening up a dresser drawer where you have seasonal clothing stored and smell that smell of stored clothing? It makes me want to take the clothing out that I know is perfectly clean and launder them all over again.
Well you can save yourself a lot a time and energy to remedy this 'storage' smell very easily. You can quickly make and use these scented drawer liners in all dresser drawers or even on closet shelving.
Simply go to your local home decorating or lumberyard (we have Menards, the Home Depot, and Lowe’s; not to mention other privately owned building supply stores). Next, look in the discontinue items bins in the Wallpaper isle.
This is the perfect time of the year to get those wallpaper remnants since many stores want to get rid of inventory.
If you don’t have a store around, you can even use paper grocery bags. Just follow the instructions given below.
What you are looking for is plain wallpaper, not vinyl coated, not pre-pasted. Just plain old-fashioned wallpaper. Most of the time you can find rolls very cheap - a couple dollars for a roll.
Since they will be in the bottom of the drawer and not really seen, any design will do. Of course, if it is a design you like, it's a bonus!
Cut your paper to fit your drawers. Then roll the paper up and place in a heavy plastic bag. Add several drops of your favorite essential oils to a few cotton balls and put in the plastic bag with the wallpaper.
Seal all inside for several days so the essential oils can penetrate the paper. Then simply place in your drawers, add your clothing and next season you won't dread opening the drawers!
You can use blotting paper or plain unprinted newspaper. If you have a newspaper printer or print shop in the area, often times you can get the ends of the big paper rolls very cheap too.
Favorite oils to use for this project include but are not limited to Lavender, Rose, Geranium, Lemon, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Roman Chamomile and Marjoram. You can also pick your favorite oil or blend a new scent.
Quick sachet - take a stray sock. Roll it in a ball starting at the toe end, turn the outer cuff around the ball, then, and apply your favorite essential oil. Apply as needed. These sit quietly in your dresser drawer or closet where you can easily add more essential oils to it and when you are tired of it - simply toss it out!
Essential oils can be used to repel moths and other insects that like to invade your storage areas.
Commonly used essential oils for use in your dresser or wardrobe (closet) are Lavender, Rosemary, Marjoram and Roman Chamomile.
If you are storing woolens and don't have access to a cedar chest, you can use Cedarwood essential oil to repel those nasty moths too. Of course, you may have your favorite essential oils you prefer to place in these confining spaces.
Simply place several drops of your favorite oil on a cotton ball or tissue and place in the dresser or wardrobe.
In a closet, you may want to hang one of the Terra Cotta Disc inside of a Muslin bag or Organza Bag. You can then add more oils as you feel you need to your Terra Cotta Disc. These hold more essential oils in them, so will be able to diffuse oils for several days or weeks at a time.
