Essential Oil of Niaouli Melaleuca quinquenervia

Botanical names: Melaleuca quinquenervia,
Country of Origin – Native to Caledonia, Australia, Tasmania, Madagascar
Processed - Steam distilled
Part used – Leaves and some twigs
Note: Middle
Smell - A colorless, pale yellow to greenish liquid with camphorous, energizing sweet/ fresh eucalyptus like odor.

PROPERTIES & USES:

Traditional Therapeutic actions:

Antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-catarrhal, decongestant, expectorant, insect repellent, vulnerary, tonic,

Skin & Hair:

acne, boils, cuts, infections, herpes. Aid wrinkles, psoriasis fungal infections.

Respiratory:

asthma, sinusitis, bronchitis, catarrh, laryngitis, bronchopneumonia

Muscular/Skeletal:

muscle aches and pains, rheumatism

Cardiovascular:

poor circulation, thread veins, varicose veins

Immune:

colds, fever, viral infections

Nervous - Brain/Mind:

anxiety, depression, aids in concentration, clears head.

Industry/Commercial/ Other uses:

Also used in gargles, cough drops, toothpastes, mouth sprays. Veterinary care of infected wounds and skin irritations, rubbed on rheumatic limbs of canines (dogs).

Blends with:

Basil, black pepper, cajeput, cedarwood, German and Roman chamomile, cypress, eucalyptus oils, fragonia, frankincense, geranium, ginger, lavender, spike lavender, lemon, lemongrass, manuka, sweet marjoram, myrrh, ravensara, ravintsara, rosemary, sage, tea tree

CAUTIONS:

Avoid on sensitive or damaged skin. Any essential oil - ingested in large (and sometimes even small) amounts can be fatal. **Keep out of reach of children.**

BLENDS TO TRY

Anti-infection Spray

Distilled water - 8 oz
Niaouli – 1 teaspoon (5ml)

Shake well, Spray in any room. Keep refrigerated and use within 30 days.

Mental Clarity Spray

Lemongrass - 50 drops (2½ ml)
Rosemary - 40 drops (2ml)
Niaouli - 40 drops (2ml)
Cedarwood Atlas - 20 drops (1 ml)
Emulsifier – 2 teaspoons
Distilled or Filtered water - 4 ounces

Mix essential oils with emulsifier, once well blended then add water, Shake well. Put in sprayer and use when needed. Date this and discard after 1 month. Keep refrigerated when not using.

Muscle Relaxer Massage

Niaouli - 5 drops
Lavender - 4 drops
Black Pepper - 3 drops
Pine - 3 drops
MCT - 1 oz

Mix essential oils together, then add carrier oil. Warm slightly and use for massage.

Decongestion and Expectorant Blend

Eucalyptus Radiata (best for children) or E. Globulus (if adult) – 25 drops
Thyme ct linalol – 10 drops
Myrtle – 10 drops
Niaouli – 10 drops
Ravintsara – 5 drops

Blend well – then place several drops on the cotton pad of any cold air fan diffuser. Let this run continuously for several hours in the room you are occupying.

This blend can also be used in a bowl of hot water – place 3-4 drops in a bowl of hot water and inhale the vapors that rise. You do not need to drape a towel over the bowl or your head. Just inhale the warm essential oil filled air as it diffuses.

Blend to use for Bronchitis

Thyme linalool - 10 drops
Eucalyptus radiata - 10 drops
Niaouli - 10 drops
Myrtle - 25 drops

Blend well and use one of these ways - Put in about 10 drops in a bowl of very hot water (you do not need to use boiling water, just hot out of the faucet) and let the steam fill the air.

Place several drops on a tissue or use in a personal inhaler. Put 3-5 drops in a carrier oil and massage over the chest and back.

This blend is great for children. Do not use on skin of children. Use minimal amounts near children under 2yrs as Niaouli and Eucalyptus oils could cause restriction of airways due to the cooling effect of these oils.
